WORK AND LIFE SKILLS PROGRAM

This application is for a barista position in the Fall Cohort (September - December 2026) of the Work & Life Skills Program.

There are up to 6 positions available at the Minneapolis location, and 4 at the St Paul location. Wildflyer Coffee’s vision is to end youth homelessness through dignified employment opportunities. Our Work & Life Skills Program seeks to hire youth in and around the Twin Cities who have lived experience of housing instability or homelessness.

Once your application is submitted, you will receive an email with instructions for the next steps in the hiring process. The hiring process timeline is outlined below, with a start date of Wednesday, September 2. Although the process begins 2 months before the start date, Wildflyer will do our best to make this a positive and supportive hiring experience. We are excited to connect with all of our applicants, even if we aren't able to offer a position in the cohort.

ABOUT THE PROGRAM

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Must be between the ages of 16-24 years old

  2. Must have physical and unexpired I-9 documents by the start date

  3. Must have the availability and ability to work 20 hours per week and plan for transportation to and from shifts

  4. Attend weekly programming every Wednesday 12-2pm

  5. Have lived experience of housing instability or homelessness

  6. A willingness to set and progress towards personal and professional goals, collaborate with your cohort and coworkers,

  7. contribute to coffee shop operations, and apply coaching and feedback

  8. Ability to complete additional onboarding requirements and/or intakes with partner organizations (Avivo, Goodwill Easter Seals, Face to Face, YouthLink, Hired, or others)

THE PROCESS:

  1. Phone screening

    • Applicants will schedule a 15 min phone call with W&LS Program Manager. The Manager will initiate the phone call at the scheduled time. If an applicant misses the phone call and doesn’t communicate during the scheduled time, they have another chance to reschedule.

    • If you miss 2 scheduled calls, you may not be eligible for an interview depending on communication or reason for missing the calls.

  2. In Person interview

    • This will be conducted at the shop you applied for. It will take around 1 hour to complete.
