Brewing Brighter Futures: A celebration of everything Wildflyer is and can be

We like to say coffee is the vehicle with which we deliver our programming, because we know coffee brings people together. It’s a community beverage, both in farming and brewing, and always stirs up conversation. Get it? Stirs up? Okay, I’ll see myself out.

The first time I entered one of our shops, I was a customer. I had heard about this cool non-profit coffee shop that hired youth experiencing housing instability and helped them break out of the cycle of homelessness. And the second I stepped inside the shop, I knew I was someplace special.

Our values and mission are tangible feelings in the shop. You can feel what we do, support our work, and get a treat all at the same time. And it’s why we’ve stuck around; our model of support is transparent, honest, and, frankly, innovative. As someone said to us recently, “It’s a shame a place like Wildflyer has to exist, but we’re so glad you do.” Our services are needed - now more than ever. As the cost of living continues to go up, the number of young people experiencing housing instability always rises too.

Which brings me to why we fundraise.

The support of our neighborhoods, the people who want to make a difference, who want to show up and change the world, it’s our lifeblood. It’s why our fundraiser is so community-centric. We thrive because of community, we fail because of community.

Thinking about fundraising in a way that seems authentically Wildflyer, we settled on a big giant WOOHOO! celebration. A party at another small business, in our OG neighborhood, with food from other locally owned spaces, silent auction items from our friends and partners, and overall just a big neighborhood block party. Except without that weird neighbor you have to avoid. (I am the weird neighbor on my block, I’m owning it.)

Since we love alliteration here at Wildflyer, our fundraising party was named Brewing Brighter Futures. And has been going on for five years now! Five years of community coming together to lift up our work, five years of being blown away by support, five years of celebration. It’s hard to believe how far we’ve come from our coffee cart beginnings, and the brick-and-mortar shop that opened during 2020 in the old Peace Coffee Building.

Where we can go from here is exactly what we’re celebrating this year. At this fifth annual Brewing Brighter Futures, we’re raising a cup to what’s possible. We’re excited to see what our future holds, where our graduates go, and how we can continue to deliver impactful programming to end youth homelessness. When our community comes together, we can do so much. We can change so much. We saw it during the operation metro surge. We saw it when you stepped up to cover our funding costs. We saw it during COVID. 

And now, we’re seeing it through your continued support of our programs. In 2025 alone, we saw a huge impact on our programming, with 72% of graduates maintaining or improving their housing stability, and a further 88% leaving with a solidified plan for their future.
